Services in England

Active Ark Ltd is an independent child care service providing residential care and crisis intervention for children and young people aged from 8 to 18, with both short and long stay placements available to meet their needs.

When a young person is referred to Active Ark it is usually due to the experiencing of a number of behavioural and emotional difficulties, or some instability in their home life. In order to minimise the effect that further instability may have on the young person, Active Ark aims to provide young people with a safe environment which offers the individual a sense of security in which to grow and develop.

Our services aim to offer and provide the highest quality of care to young people in order that they may grow and develop positively so that they move towards semi or full independence regardless of creed, race, colour, religious persuasion, sexual orientation or intellectual ability.

The children and young people looked after by Active Ark have individual needs and we aim to provide a safe environment with a consistent approach to living in the home which is integral to the provision of care.

At each home the care staff team work and collaborate in ways to ensure that the child will receive the help and support from the appropriate agencies. Soon after admission the young person will have the opportunity to decide upon his or her key worker. She or he will have the support of the care staff team to gain confidence and self-esteem by exploring their feelings and problems in an open and non-Judgemental atmosphere. They are encouraged to partake in a range of social, leisure and cultural experiences to develop their social skills and promote healthy lifestyle. The care team will strive to engender the young person’s confidence, awareness of and pride in their individual identity and culture.

By and large we aim to get the young people in our care into full-time education, and will facilitate attendance at the local school or Education College, however if this is not possible then we are an ASDAN registered centre and an Award Scheme can be provided in-house if it is appropriate to the young person’s needs.

The ultimate goal is to develop their personal, emotional, social and educational abilities to their full potential. Our services are co-ordinated and dependable, providing a secure, structured environment our young people can trust; and flexible – being tailored to each individual’s own, changing needs as they grow.

The care team’s aim above all else is to provide a caring, nurturing and supportive home environment that will enable each young person to acquire the necessary skills and confidence to make their transition towards adulthood.
